It’s not just Fassbender and Assassin’s Creed. Just as it wasn’t just the Last Airbender, or just Prince of Persia, or just 21/Warm Bodies/Akira/21 Jumpstreet/Argo/The Immortal Rules/The Dirty Girls Social Club- oh, and every movie ever where a white dude enters a society of brown people and becomes the bestest swordsman/warrior/hunter/archer/scientist/dog owner there ever was. It’s all of those books and movies and tv shows, and so, so much more that whitewash cultures and characters that are non-white. It’s the magazines that lighten dark women’s skin. It’s Asian actors getting plastic surgery to look more white, and successfully getting more jobs. It’s idiots with their heads so far up their asses they couldn’t fucking read that Rue was never white.

It’s mods that make Isabela white. It’s people being less upset when a black child is killed than a white one (Am I talking about the Hunger Games twitters, or real life, you decide). It’s the heart break my best friend felt when her cousins asked why one of their favorite cartoon characters didn’t look like them anymore in “The Last Airbender” (I really hope Shamalan had the same question asked of him by his own daughter). It’s my other best friend always straightening her hair because she thinks her natural curls are “too nappy (her words, not mine)” and all the jokes people make about her being an oreo.

If people are angry about a white assassin for AC, this convoluted list is just a small slice of “why”.
